Welcome to Byng Road Allotments

Byng Road Allotments was one of the first allotments established in 1939 as a war-time allotment by the British Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. We started life in the adjacent field, where Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and the Environment Centre is currently located. We moved to our current location in 1952.

We occupy just over 3.5 acres and have over 90 plots. In 2023 we introduced three starter plots for people on our waiting list to experience allotment gardening while waiting for a plot to become available.

Our facilities include water supply, a communal plot with an apple orchard, a small wildlife plot, on-site car parks and a chemical toilet during the spring and summer months.

Byng Road Allotments Group (BRAG)

Who are we? What we do. Our Objectives
Byng Road Allotments Group was created on 5 July 2013, when we entered into an agreement with the London Borough of Barnet to lease our site for 38 years and self manage our own allotment.

Our Lease requires all our tenants to be members of Byng Road Allotments Group. You automatically become a member when you sign your Tenancy Agreement.
The routine management of the site is undertaken by the committee who are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.

The committee includes a chair, treasurer, lettings secretary, site and technical manager, social secretary and a website editor; along with any additional roles which the committee considers are needed.
• to promote horticulture and maintain and develop facilities for gardening.

• to promote the interest of all who are interested in allotment gardening.

• to educate and promote the art, science, principles and practice of allotment gardening.
